Apartment cleanouts come down to one thing: the stairs. A third-floor unit in a converted Victorian off Westcott Street with a turn-back staircase and a 30-inch door is a completely different job than a ground-floor ranch, even with the same amount of stuff in it.
LaFata Disposal Services clears apartments throughout the Syracuse area — student rentals, senior apartments, converted houses and modern complexes. We do the carrying, including the flights.
We also work with building managers on multiple units at once, which is common at the end of the academic year and at the start of a rehab project.
What we clear from apartments
- Couches, chairs and living room furniture
- Mattresses, box springs and bed frames
- Dressers, desks and bookcases
- Kitchen contents, small appliances and dishes
- Clothing, boxes and closet contents
- Televisions and electronics
- Bagged trash and recycling backlog
- Storage locker and basement contents belonging to the unit
How apartment jobs run
1. Tell us the floor and the stairs
Third floor with a tight turn is more labor than a ground-floor unit. Being upfront about it keeps the quote accurate.
2. Parking and building rules
Let us know about loading zones, elevator reservations or a required certificate of insurance for the building.
3. We carry everything down
Nothing needs to be staged in the hallway. We protect walls, railings and door frames on the way through.
4. Common areas left clean
Hallways and stairwells swept behind us so the building manager has nothing to complain about.
Who books apartment cleanouts
- Tenants moving out and trying to protect a deposit
- Building managers turning multiple units
- Families clearing a relative's senior apartment
- Students leaving at the end of the spring semester
- Landlords after an abandonment
End of May near the university is the busiest week of our year. If your lease ends then, book two or three weeks out.
Many buildings require a certificate of insurance before a vendor works on site. Ask your manager and we will get it sent.
Frequently asked questions
Do you charge extra for stairs?
Upper-floor units take more labor and that is reflected in the quote, but there is no surprise stair fee added afterward.
Can you provide a certificate of insurance?
Yes. Send us the building's requirements and we will have it issued before the job.
Can you clear several units at once?
Yes. Multi-unit turnovers are scheduled together and quoted as one job.
Do I need to be there?
Not necessarily. Lockbox or manager access works, and we send photos when the unit is empty.
