Hot Tub Removal in Syracuse, NY

Hot tubs and spas cut down, hauled out and disposed of, deck and all.

A hot tub that has not been used in three winters is a liability. The cover is caving in, the shell is holding rainwater, and the cost of getting it running again is more than a new one. Getting it out of the backyard is a demolition job, not a pickup.

LaFata Disposal Services removes hot tubs and spas across the Syracuse area. We drain what is left in the shell, disconnect the electrical at the disconnect box, cut the tub into manageable sections, and carry it out through gates, side yards or over a deck rail.

Central New York winters are hard on outdoor spas. Freeze damage to plumbing is the usual reason a tub gets abandoned, and by the time it comes out the cabinet is often rotted and full of water. We plan for that weight rather than being surprised by it.

What the job includes

  • Draining remaining water from the shell
  • Disconnecting the tub from its electrical whip (breaker must be off)
  • Cutting the acrylic shell and frame into sections
  • Removing the cover, cover lifter and steps
  • Hauling away rotted skirting and cabinet panels
  • Removing the surrounding deck or platform when requested
  • Sweeping and raking the pad or patio afterward

How hot tub removal works

  1. 1. Photos of the tub and the path out

We need to see the spa and how we get to it — gate width, deck height and whether it sits in a screened porch or a sunken surround.

  2. 2. Electrical shut off before we arrive

Turn the breaker off at the panel. We disconnect at the spa side; a licensed electrician should remove any permanent wiring at the panel.

  3. 3. Cut down and carry out

Most tubs come out in four to eight pieces. Cutting is quicker and far safer than trying to walk a full shell around a house.

  4. 4. Haul away and clean the pad

Everything leaves in the truck the same day, and we clear debris off the concrete, gravel or deck underneath.

Who needs a hot tub removed

  • Homeowners with a spa that froze and cracked
  • Buyers who inherited a broken tub with a new house
  • Sellers clearing a backyard before listing
  • Landlords removing a liability from a rental property
  • Deck contractors who need the tub gone before rebuilding

A hot tub cannot go out with household trash and will not fit in most dumpsters intact, which is why they sit for years. Cutting it down on site is what makes the job possible in one visit.

If the deck around the tub is also failing, mention it. Doing the tub and the deck together saves a second mobilization.

Frequently asked questions

Does the hot tub need to be drained first?

It helps a great deal. If you can drain it a day or two before, do; if the pump is dead we can pump or bail what is left.

Will removing the tub damage my deck?

We plan the cut and carry to avoid it. If the tub is sunk into a deck we may need to remove a section of decking, and we will point that out before we start.

Do you need an electrician?

For the spa-side disconnect, no. If you want the wiring and disconnect box removed back to the panel, that is electrician work.

How long does it take?

Most residential hot tub removals take two to four hours on site, depending on access and whether a deck is involved.
